The Deloraine Royals, Cartwright Clippers, Miniota/Elkhorn C-Hawks and Souris Elks were winners in the Tiger Hills Hockey League Friday night. Brendin Hammond scored twice as the Royals downed the Hartney Blues 4-1; Bryce Enns had two goals and four assists as the Clippers beat the Carberry Plainsmen 11-5; Parker Johnson scored twice as the C-Hawks defeated the Wawanesa Jets 6-1 and improved to 13-0 in the season and Ashley Robertson scored the go-ahead goal on the power play 12:24 into the third period as the Elks shaded the MacGregor Wild 3-2.


In the Westman High School Hockey League – Jaden Browning Lozinski scored twice as Virden slipped past Boissevain/Souris 4-3; Kyle O’Connor had five goals and an assist as Killarney/Wawanesa downed Crocus Plains 9-4; Tyler Rogers had a hat trick in Vincent Massey’s 6-2 victory over Minnedosa/Erickson; the Neepawa Tigers scored four third period goals en route to a 6-1 win over Glenboro/Carberry/Baldur; Owen Martyniuk stopped all 28 shots he faced as Swan Valley blanked Hamiota/Rivers/Elton/Strathclair 6-0 and Colby Asselstine scored four times as Birtle/Shoal Lake/Rossburn beat Deloraine/Hartney 7-1.


The Southwest Cougars scored three times in the first period and added four more in the second in a 7-2 victory over the Wheat Kings in Brandon. Jayce Thompson had a hat trick for the Cougars while singles went to Jack Clark, Regan Anderson, Nate Robson and Luke Mackenzie. Southwest netminder Micky Gross made 46 saves including 18 in the third period.


Virden captain Brody Wilson scored a pair of second period power play goals in the Oil Capitals 3-2 victory over the Pistons in Steinbach. Andrew Blocker also scored for the visitors. Virden’s Owen LaRocque stopped 35 of the 37 shots he faced.


The Brandon Wheat Kings gave up a pair of late third period goals and lost 4-3 to the Medicine Hat Tigers at Westoba Place. Nolan Ritchie, Nate Danielson and Evan Groening did the goal scoring for the Wheat Kings.


Canada will face Finland at 1 p.m. in the semifinals of the 2023 World Women’s U18 Hockey Championship in Ostersund, Sweden. Canada finished the preliminary round with a 3-0 record. St. Adolphe's Avery Pickering is on the Team Canada roster.


Mark Scheifele scored his 25th and 26th goals of the season and David Rittich made 22 saves as Winnipeg downed the Penguins 4-1 in Pittsburgh. Blake Wheeler and Nikolaj Ehlers also scored for the Jets who host the Arizona Coyotes on Sunday.


Friday's game between the Manitoba Moose and Toronto Marlies was suspended due to a spectator medical emergency inside Coca-Cola Coliseum. The game was tied 1-1 after the first period and will be completed at a later date. The Moose will meet the Senators in Belleville tonight.


Abby Ackland and Matt Dunstone have qualified for the playoffs at the Grand Slam of Curling’s Canadian Open in Camrose after winning B Event qualifiers Friday. Kerri Einarson, Kaitlyn Lawes and Jennifer Jones will play C Event qualifiers this morning.
