Jason Bowles scored twice and Cory Gardham made 28 saves as Miniota/Elkhorn shutout the Killarney Shamrocks 3-0. The C-Hawks lead the Virden Oil Kings by three points in the race for top spot in the Tiger Hills Hockey League’s West Division. Both teams have three games left. Shane Jury and Matt Saler scored three goals each as the Minnedosa Bombers downed Carberry 8-1. Tavis Quinn had the lone goal for the Plainsmen.


Westman High School Hockey League - Kash Henkelman had two goals and two assists and Wyatt Rose chipped in with four helpers as Swan Valley bounced Crocus Plains 9-1; Josh Chipelski made 21 saves in the Major Pratt Trojans 2-1 victory over Reston/Elkhorn/Melita/Pierson; Tarek Lapointe had three goals and two assists as the Neepawa Tigers defeated Virden 10-3; Chris Cherneski scored the go-ahead goal midway through the third period as the Roblin/Grandview/Gilbert Plains Raiders edged Hamiota/Rivers/Elton/Strathclair 2-1 and Jaymen Fee had a goal and two assists as the Dauphin Clippers downed Minnedosa/Erickson 5-2.


Joey Bielik had a goal and an assist and Eric Reid made 22 saves as the Virden Oil Capitals downed the Winnipeg Freeze 4-1 at Tundra Oil & Gas Place. Josh Lehto, Andrew Blocker and Colten Miller also scored for the Caps who have won eight of nine games in January and moved within six points of the MJHL’s West Division leading Waywayseecappo Wolverines. Virden is just four points back of the OCN Blizzard, Dauphin Kings and Swan Valley Stampeders who are tied for second place in the division.


The Brandon Wheat Kings and Winnipeg Ice both lost road games Friday night. Calder Anderson scored 83 seconds into the first period but the Warriors scored the next five as Moose Jaw defeated Brandon 5-1. Connor McClennon scored the lone goal for the Ice in their 2-1 loss to the Lethbridge Hurricanes.


The Manitoba Moose fell 2-1 to the Toronto Marlies at Canada Life Centre. Leon Gawanke scored for the Moose with 64 seconds left in the third period to cut the Marlies lead to 2-1.


Jennifer Jones and Kaitlyn Lawes are both 6-0 and have clinched two of the three spots in the Playoff Round at the 2023 Provincial Scotties Tournament of Hearts in East St. Paul. Beth Peterson is 5-1 and needs to win one of her remaining two games to join Jones and Lawes. The first place team after the completion of today’s 4 p.m. draw will earn a bye to the final Sunday afternoon while the second and third place teams will play in the semifinal tomorrow morning.
