Ty Moffatt scored shorthanded, five-on-five and into an empty net as the Deloraine Royals downed the MacGregor Wild 4-2 in the Tiger Hills Hockey League’s first game of 2023. Mitch Olson also scored for the Royals who snapped a four-game losing skid. Dustin Bruce and Drew Anderson replied for the Wild.


In the Westman High School Hockey League – Colby Asselstine scored his 20th goal of the season and Dane Pearson made 35 saves as the Birtle/Shoal Lake/Rossburn Falcons blanked Boissevain/Souris 1-0 and Nairn Cooper had two goals and an assist in the Reston/Elkhorn/Melita/Pierson Renegades 4-2 victory over the Virden Golden Bears.


Brooklyn Franklin scored twice and Payton Murray made 24 saves as the Westman Wildcats defeated the Pembina Valley Hawks 5-1 in Hartney. Hayley Kolosky, Kelsey Huibers and Paige Kozak also scored for the defending Manitoba Female U18 AAA Hockey League champions.


Davis Chorney scored the tying goal with 3:44 left in the third period and Colten Miller potted the winner 3:08 into overtime as the Virden Oil Capitals edged the OCN Blizzard 2-1. Virden netminder Eric Reid made 29 saves.


Nate Danielson scored his 19th goal of the season and assisted on markers by Brett Hyland and Quinn Mantei as the Brandon Wheat Kings held on for a 3-2 victory over the Portland Winterhawks at Westoba Place. Carson Bjarnason stopped 34 shots.


Pierre-Luc Dubois scored twice and Kyle Connor had a goal and an assist as the Winnipeg Jets defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning 4-2 at Canada Life Centre. Morgan Barron sealed the deal with a shorthanded empty net goal with 1:24 left in regulation. Josh Morrissey chipped in with three assists for the Jets who have won four in a row and will host the Vancouver Canucks Sunday afternoon.


Jansen Harkins potted the winner 2:46 into overtime as the Manitoba Moose edged Laval 5-4. The Rocket scored three times in the final 5:32 of regulation to tie the game at 4-4.
