Hudson Brosseau scored twice and Braden McGowan had three assists as the Vincent Massey Vikings defeated Grand Plains 8-2 in the lone Westman High School Hockey League game. Four other games scheduled for Friday were postponed.

 

The Virden Oil Capitals won their first game of 2022. Braden Fischer scored twice and Bray Rookes had a goal and two assists as Virden doubled up on the Portage Terriers 8-4 at Tundra Oil & Gas Place. Trevor Hunt, Layton Veitch, Colten Miller, Carson Buydens and Tyler Thoendel also scored for the Oil Capitals who trailed 2-1 after the first period and lead 5-3 after 40 minutes. Virden netminder Eric Reid made 25 saves.

 

The National Hockey League has postponed the Winnipeg Jets home game on January 15th against the Ottawa Senators because of attendance restrictions in Canadian cities because of COVID-19.

 

Austin Poganski scored twice and Evan Cormier made 34 saves as the Manitoba Moose defeated the Texas Stars 4-1.

 

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers signed receiver Blake Johnson. The Houston native was in training camp with the Bombers in 2021 before suffering a season ending injury. Johnson spent parts of the 2018 season with the NFL’s Cleveland Browns.
