The Winnipeg Blue Bombers recorded their first win of the 2024 CFL season Friday night. Brady Oliveira ran for 129 yards and Sergio Castillo kicked six field goals as Winnipeg downed the Ottawa Redblacks 25-16. Chris Streveler, who got the start at quarterback in place of the injured Zach Collaros, threw for 127 yards and added 79 yards on the ground and a rushing touchdown. The Bombers are 1-4 and host the Calgary Stampeders next Friday.

Golf Manitoba's Provincial Women’s Amateur Championship and Provincial Men's Mid-Amateur championship will wrap up today at Minnedosa. Addison Kartusch of St. Charles is minus one and leads Cala Korman of Killarney and Crystal Zamzow of Swan River by five shots. There’s a three-way tie for the lead heading into the final round of the Mid-Am. Allan McDonald of Breezy Bend, Lyle Mackenzie of Niakwa and Tyson Ehnes of Lorette are all at minus six. Thomas Friesen of Wheat City is minus four and Drew Jones of Shilo is minus two.

The Hamiota Red Sox plated seven runs in the bottom of the first inning and then tacked on seven more in the fourth and beat the Elkhorn Expos 18-7 Friday night in the lone South West Baseball League game. Brady Waddell had two doubles and drove in six runs for the Red Sox who kept their playoff hopes alive. Hamiota has a 4-9 record. The Reston Rockets and Wawanesa Brewers are 6-6 and tied for the fourth and final playoff spot.

Baseball Manitoba's Provincial 11U Tier One Championship is on this weekend in Mitchell. The Tier Two championship is in Reston and the Tier Three championship is in Boissevain.

Softball Manitoba's Provincial U15 A Championship is in Steinbach and the Provincial U13 A Championship is in Portage.

Rob Emery, Ramon Bramasco and Max Murphy homered in the Winnipeg Goldeyes 5-1 victory over the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks. The Fish made two roster moves Friday. Outfielder Ryan Holgate was activated from the injured list while outfielder Braxton Turner was released.

Canada will meet Argentina next Tuesday in the semifinals of Copa America. Canada defeated Venezuela 4-3 in penalty kicks Friday night in Arlington, Texas in the quarterfinals.
