Jeri Lafleche of Clear Lake won the Provincial Women's Amateur Golf Championship and Ryan Sholdice of Breezy Bend captured the Provincial Men’s Mid-Amateur Championship Friday at Granite Hills near Lac du Bonnet. Lafleche finished six shots ahead of Rhonda Orr of Southwood. Cala Korman of Killarney was 79 Friday and finished in a tie for sixth place. Sholdice was two shots clear of Drew Jones of Shilo. Jones was four-over par 76 in the final round and finished with a 54-hole total of 226. Brad Pardy of Shilo (76) was 235. Nolan Tutkaluk of Shilo (78) was 240; Joel Baron of Carberry (84) was 249; Chris Sitko of Shilo (84) was 261 and Glen Ford of Glenboro (89) was 283.


The Boissevain Centennials clinched first place in the Southwest Baseball League Friday night. Skylar Canada had four hits and drove in four runs as Boissevain defeated the Reston Rockets 14-1. The Centennials finished the regular season schedule with a 12-2 record. The second place Deloraine Royals were 11-3. Hayden Crampain had two hits and scored three runs as the Hamiota Red Sox downed the Rivers Comets 6-4. The Red Sox finished in third place at 8-6. Connor Cory threw a five-hit shutout and struck out 10 Oilers in the Wawanesa Brewers 6-0 victory over Virden.


Max Murphy, Hidekel Gonzalez, Deon Stafford Jr. and David Washington homered as the Winnipeg Goldeyes shutout the Sioux City Explorers 9-0 at Shaw Park. Fish third baseman Ian Sagdal extended his hitting streak to eight games.


The Winnipeg Jets selected five players on Friday at the NHL Draft in Montreal. The Jets took defenseman Elias Salomonsson of Sweden in round two; centre Danil Zhilkin of the Guelph Storm in round three; defenseman Garrett Brown of the USHL’s Sioux City Musketeers in round four; centre Fabian Wagner of Sweden in round six and goaltender Domenic Divincentiis of the North Bay Battalion in round seven.


The Winnipeg Blue Bombers put their perfect record on the line tonight in Vancouver. The 4-0 Bombers meet the B.C. Lions who are 3-0 to start the season. The Bombers placed linebacker Kyrie Wilson on the six-game injured list, with an Achilles injury. Malik Clemons will move into Wilson’s spot on the defense.
