The Winnipeg Blue Bombers are 2-0 to start the 2022 CFL season. Zach Collaros threw touchdown passes to Greg Ellingson and Dalton Schoen as the defending Grey Cup champions beat the Redblacks 19-12 in Ottawa. The Bombers defense sacked Redblacks quarterback Jeremiah Masoli three times and Jackson Jeffcoat forced a fumble on a key third down deep in Winnipeg territory late in the fourth quarter. The Blue Bombers next game is Friday, June 24th against the Hamilton Tiger Cats at IG Field.


Dawson Cullen had three hits and drove in three runs as the Wawanesa Brewers defeated the Rivers Comets 12-9. Avery Cullen got the win for the Brewers who snapped their five-game losing skid. Dana McNish had a pair of home runs for the Comets who saw their record fall to 0-4. There were two other games in the Southwest Baseball League Friday night. The Boissevain Centennials beat the Oilers 6-4 in Virden in a battle of 4-1 ball teams and Hamiota Red Sox outscored the Reston Rockets 8-6. The Red Sox have reached the midway point of their schedule and own a 4-3 record.


Raul Navarro snapped a 5-5 tie with an inside-the-park home run in the bottom of the seventh inning and Kevin Lachance added a solo homer in the eighth as the Winnipeg Goldeyes defeated the Lincoln Saltdogs 7-5 at Shaw Park.


The Manitoba Marathon will be held Sunday in Winnipeg. Due to COVID-19 the much anticipated Father’s Day race was held virtually in the fall of 2020 and a scaled-back hybrid event was held in the September of 2021. The Marathon begins at 7 a.m. Sunday outside IG Field on the campus of the University of Winnipeg. The temperature is expected to be in the 20 degrees celsius range when the race starts.
