Boissevain/Wawanesa will face the Morden Thunder in the semifinals of the Provincial High School Baseball Championship today in Reston. The Broncos beat Glenboro/Baldur/Cartwright 15-0 in the quarterfinals on Friday.


The Zone 9 champion Virden Bears will meet St. Joachim/Real Berard today in the quarterfinals of the Provincial High School Fastpitch Championship in Portage.


The Boissevain Centennials and Rivers Comets were winners in the South West Baseball League Friday night. Drew Hilhorst doubled, tripled and drove in three runs as the defending champion Centennials downed the Deloraine Royals 8-2. Layton Veitch had two hits and four rbi as Rivers blanked the Hamiota Red Sox 11-0. Scott Beever struck out 13 for the Comets who are 4-0 to start the season.


The Winnipeg Goldeyes gave up seven runs in the top of the seventh inning and lost 9-4 to the Lincoln Saltdogs. Max Murphy had three hits and two rbi for the Fish.


The Winnipeg Blue Bombers lost their pre-season finale 31-10 to the Calgary Stampeders. Winnipeg’s lone touchdown came on a 109-yard punt return by Chris Smith in the second quarter. The Bombers play their season opener next Thursday at home against the Grey Cup champion Montreal Alouettes.


Evan Nachtigall of Shilo will meet top seed Marco Trstenjak of Elmhurst today in the semifinals of the Manitoba Men’s Match Play Championship at the Breezy Bend Country Club. Nachtigall defeated Adam Ingram of Elmhurst 2up in the quarterfinals on Friday. Cala Korman of Killarney will face top seed Addison Kartusch of St. Charles in the women’s semifinals. Korman beat Crystal Zamzow of Swan River 2 & 1 in the quarterfinals.


Ryan Fox and Robert MacIntyre are tied for the lead at the midway point of the Canadian Open in Hamilton. Both are 10-under par through 36 holes. Mackenzie Hughes is three shots back. Teulon’s Aaron Cockerill was plus seven and missed the cut.
