The Boissevain Broncos will meet the Garden Valley Zodiacs in the semifinals at the Provincial High School Baseball Championship in Glenboro. The Broncos blanked Brandon Vincent Massey 10-nothing in the quarterfinals on Friday. Carberry/Cartwright/Baldur/Glenboro lost 13-0 to Garden Valley in the quarterfinals.


The Virden Bears will face Sanford in the quarterfinals at the Provincial High School Fastpitch Championship in Ile des Chenes. Virden beat Steinbach Regional 13-2 and lost 6-0 to the Vincent Massey Trojans in Pool play. The Bears downed Mikisew 13-3 in their playoff opener.


The 25th Manitoba Baseball Hall of Fame Induction Banquet takes place today in Morden. Eight individuals will be added to the Hall and they include Corey Billaney and Junior Brake of Boissevain, Laurie Langrell of Warren, Patti Hacault of Holland and Keith Carriere and Jeff Bouchard of Winnipeg. T.G. Smith and Todd Smith will be inducted posthumously. The four teams to be inducted are the 1953-56 Norwood Community Club Juvenile and Junior teams; the 2006-2015 Minnedosa Mavericks teams, the 2009-2013 Reston Rockets teams and the 1966 Hamiota Royals Juvenile team.


The Winnipeg Goldeyes lost 5-4 to the Lake Country DockHounds. Marcus Chiu singled home the winning run in the bottom of the ninth for the DockHounds. Winnipeg designated hitter Dayson Croes had had four singles and extended his hitting streak to 16 games.


The Winnipeg Blue Bombers lost their pre-season finale 28-16 to the Saskatchewan Roughriders at IG Field. Rookie quarterback Tyrrell Pigrome took over from starter Dru Brown in the third quarter and capped off a nine-play 70 yard drive with a five-yard touchdown pass to Amare Jones. Jordan Salima had the other Bombers major on a four yard run 1:40 into the fourth quarter. Today is cut down day as head coach Mike O’Shea and his staff have until 10 p.m. to set their week one roster. Winnipeg will open the 2023 CFL season next Friday at home against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.


Evan Nachtigall of Wheat City defeated Adam Guenther of Pine Ridge 5 & 4 in the round of 16 at Golf Manitoba’s Provincial Men's Match Play Championship at the Glendale Golf & Country Club in Winnipeg. Nachtigall will meet Eric Prokopowich of Dauphin today in the quarterfinals. Jeri Lafleche of Clear Lake will face Cala Korman of Killarney and Clara Peake of Binscarth will take on Kate Gregoire of Quarry Oaks in the women's quarterfinals.
