The Wawanesa Warriors and Souris Sabres will play in third place games today at the Provincial High School Varsity Basketball Championships. The Warriors will meet Dufferin Christian at the A boys championship in Glenboro. The Sabres will face Immanuel Christian at the AA girls championship in Somerset. Wawanesa lost 66-43 to Glenboro/Baldur while Souris fell 74-48 to Warren in the semifinals on Friday.


The Major Pratt Trojans are Westman High School Hockey League consolation champions. Xander Mecas has four goals and four assists as Major Pratt defeated Boissevain/Souris/Deloraine/Waskada 14-4. The Trojans swept the best-of-three final in two straight. The Vincent Massey Vikings meet the Neepawa Tigers tonight at the Yellowhead Centre in game one of the championship final.


The Brandon Wheat Kings have advanced to the Manitoba U18 AAA Hockey League final. Brady Turko had a goal and three assists as Brandon beat the Pembina Valley Hawks 4-2. The Wheat Kings swept the best-of-five semifinal in three straight.


The Virden Oil Capitals will meet the Neepawa Titans in round one of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League playoffs. The Titans lost 4-0 to the Steinbach Pistons but clinched fourth place in the West when Waywayseecappo fell 4-1 to OCN. The Oil Capitals were shutout 2-0 by the Niverville Nighthawks.


The Tiger Hills Hockey League’s best-of-five final will begin one week from today. The Killarney Shamrocks will host the defending champion Miniota/Elkhorn C-Hawks on Saturday, March 23rd in the series opener.


Tyler Toffoli scored twice, Josh Morrissey had three assists and Laurent Brossoit made 21 saves in the Winnipeg Jets 6-0 victory over the Anaheim Ducks at Canada Life Centre. Dylan DeMelo, Kyle Connor, Nate Schmidt and Mason Appleton also scored for the Jets.


Jeff Malott scored the only goal of the shootout as the Manitoba Moose shaded the Chicago Wolves 3-2. Thomas Milic stopped 21 shots and all five Wolves shootout attempts.


The World Women’s Curling Championship begins today in Sydney, Nova Scotia. Rachel Homan will play her round robin opener this afternoon against Anna Hasselborg of Sweden.


Ryan Wiebe will meet Braden Calvert in the A event qualifier at the Provincial Mixed Curling Championship in Neepawa. Calvert defeated Sean Grassie 9-1 and Wiebe beat Cory Chambers 8-4.
