Jackson Keeble scored in overtime to lift the Vincent Massey Vikings past the Major Pratt Trojans 4-3 in game one of the Westman High School Hockey League’s best-of-three semifinal. Game two goes Sunday in Brandon. The Killarney/Wawanesa Raiders face the Glenboro/Carberry/Baldur Wildcats tomorrow at the Shamrock Centre in game one of their series. Griffin Albrecht made 15 saves and Zach Edmunds scored both goals as the Boissevain/Souris Broncos blanked Hamiota/Rivers/Elton/Strathclair 2-0. Kash Henkelman had two goals and an assist as the Swan Valley Tigers shaded Reston/Elkhorn/Melita/Pierson 4-3. Those were the first games in their best-of-three consolation semifinals. Both series continue tonight in Hamiota and Reston.

 

The Virden Oil Capitals play their regular season finale tonight in Portage against the Terriers. The Oil Capitals will face the Waywayseecappo Wolverines in the opening round of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League playoffs. The Terriers trail the Selkirk Steelers by one point in the race for the fourth and final playoff spot in the East Division.

 

The Westman Wildcats will find out tonight who they’ll meet in the Manitoba Female U18 AAA Hockey League final. The Winnipeg Avros face the Winnipeg Ice in the fifth and deciding game of their semifinal. The Wildcats eliminated the Yellowhead Chiefs three games to one in their second round series.

 

The Minnedosa Bombers host the Gladstone Lakers tonight (8 p.m.) in game four of the Tiger Hills Hockey League’s best-of-five East Division final. The Bombers defeated the Lakers 2-1 Wednesday in Gladstone and lead the series two games to one. The Boissevain Border Kings swept the Virden Oil Kings in three straight in the West Division final.

 

Mikey Milne had a goal and an assist as the Winnipeg Ice edged Brandon 4-3. Owen Pederson, Carson Lambos and Conor Geekie also scored for the Ice. Tyson Zimmer had a pair of goals for the visiting Wheat Kings who have lost five in a row. Rylen Roersma also scored for Brandon. The two teams meet again tonight, this time at Westoba Place.

 

The 2022 World Women’s Curling Championship begins today in Prince George. Three-time Canadian champions Kerri Einarson, Val Sweeting, Shannon Birchard and Brianne Meilleur will play their round robin opener at 4 p.m. against Stefania Constantini of Italy.
