The Winnipeg Ice will meet the Edmonton Oil Kings in the Western Hockey League’s Eastern Conference final. Matthew Savoie scored twice and Mikey Milne had a goal and two assists as the Ice defeated the Moose Jaw Warriors 6-3 and took the best-of-seven second round series four games to one. Zach Benson, Cole Muir and Conor Geekie also scored for Winnipeg. Dominion City’s Denton Mateychuk had a pair of assists for the Warriors. The Oil Kings swept the Red Deer Rebels in four straight in their series.


The Manitoba Moose are still alive in the Calder Cup playoffs. The Moose won their second straight elimination game Friday night. Morgan Barron had a goal and two assists as Manitoba downed the Milwaukee Admirals 7-3. Nicholas Jones, Evan Polei, Mikey Eyssimont, Luke Johnson, Ville Heinola and Declan Chisholm also scored for the Moose who evened the Central Division semifinal at two games a piece. The deciding fifth game goes Sunday at Canada Life Centre.


Pierre-Luc Dubois scored twice as Canada won its preliminary round opener 5-3 over Germany at the 2022 World Men’s Hockey Championship in Helsinki, Finland. Elkhorn’s Travis Sanheim drew an assist on Noah Gregor’s second period goal. Canada’s next game is Sunday against Italy.


The Winnipeg Goldeyes lost their 2022 American Baseball Association home-opener. Fargo-Moorhead first baseman Drew Ward snapped an 8-8 tie as he lined a two-out, two-run homer in the top of the eighth inning and the RedHawks held on for a 10-9 victory over Winnipeg at Shaw Park. Deon Stafford Jr., David Washington and Max Murphy homered for the Goldeyes.
