Caroline McConnell & Leigha Kristof of Reston won the girls doubles consolation final at the Provincial Junior Varsity High School Badminton Championships in Winnipeg.


The playoffs in boys singles, boys doubles and mixed doubles begin this morning at the Provincial Varsity High School Badminton Championships. The round robin ends this morning in girls singles and girls doubles.


Will Hambley stopped 44 shots as the Steinbach Pistons blanked the Dauphin Kings 2-0 Friday night at the T.G. Smith Centre. Jack Rogers scored a power play goal 8:38 into the first period and Braden Birnie added an empty netter with four seconds remaining for the Pistons who lead the Manitoba Junior Hockey League’s best-of-seven final three games to two. Game six goes Sunday night in Dauphin.


Owen Pederson had two goals and an assist as the Winnipeg Ice downed the Moose Jaw Warriors 6-1 in game one of the Western Hockey League’s Eastern Conference semifinal. Jack Finley, Jakin Smallwood, Matthew Savoie and Mikey Milne also scored for the Ice. Winnipeg netminder Daniel Hauser made 18 saves. Game two goes tonight at the Wayne Fleming arena.


The Manitoba Moose outshot Milwaukee 42-21 but lost 3-2 to the Admirals in game one of American Hockey League’s best-of-five Central Division semifinal. C.J. Seuss and Declan Chisholm did the goal scoring for the Moose. Cole Schneider scored the go-ahead goal for the Admirals with 4:07 remaining in the third period. Game two is set for tonight in Milwaukee.


Jordon McDonald lost 5-4 to Mathew Drewitz of Saskatchewan in the quarterfinals of the Canadian U18 Curling Championship in Oakville, Ontario. McDonald is playing in the championship consolation. Ryan Ostrowsky, Zoey Terrick and Grace Beaudry are playing in the consolation draw.
