The Provincial Junior Varsity Volleyball Championships end today. At the A/AA girls championship in Russell...Virden will face Reston in the quarterfinals. At the AAA girls championship in Altona...the Neelin Spartans will meet Westgate in the quarterfinals. At the AAA boys championship in Winkler….Neelin will face Louis Riel in the semifinals. The AAAA championships are in Brandon. Vincent Massey girls lost to Dakota and Vincent Massey boys fell to Miles Macdonell in the round of 16. Vincent Massey girls will meet Niverville today in the quarterfinals at the Provincial AAAA varsity volleyball championships in Winnipeg


In the Westman High School Hockey League – Jaren Waldner had two goals and an assist as Glenboro/Carberry/Baldur beat Minnesoda/Erickson 4-2. Tyler Huston scored his second goal of the game in overtime to lift Major Pratt past Virden 4-3. Colby Asselstine had two goals and two assists as Birtle/Shoal Lake/Rossburn downed Neepawa 5-3.


The Southwest Cougars gave up four unanswered third period goals and lost 5-3 to the Winnipeg Bruins at the Southdale Arena. Luke MacKenzie, Jack Clark and Sebastian Stone did the goal scoring for the Cougars.


The Virden Oil Capitals dropped a 4-3 decision to Swan Valley. Naton Miller, Joey Bielik and Trevor Hunt scored for the Oil Capitals. Jakob Jones potted the go-ahead goal 7:41 into the third period for the Stampeders.


The Killarney Shamrocks, Miniota/Elkhorn C-Hawks, Wawanesa Jets and Gladstone Lakers were winners in the Tiger Hills Hockey League Friday night. Brian Archibald made 33 saves as the Shamrocks downed the Hartney Blues 4-2. Shawn Bowles scored his second goal of the game with 2:37 left in third period as the C-Hawks shaded the Deloraine Royals 4-3. Jackson Wallis had a hat trick in the Jets 6-3 victory over the Cartwright Clippers and Jory Geddes had three goals and an assist as the Lakers beat the Souris Elks 6-2.


The Brandon Wheat Kings dropped a 4-3 decision to the Lethbridge Hurricanes at Westoba Place. Mason Ward, Nate Danielson and Calder Anderson did the goal scoring for the Wheat Kings. Daniel Hauser made 30 saves as the Winnipeg Ice downed the Blades 6-3 in Saskatoon. Conor Geekie, Graham Sward, Ty Nash, Owen Pederson, Vladislav Shilo and Ben Zloty did the goal scoring for the Ice. Connor McClennon chipped in with three assists.


Josh Morrissey scored 34 seconds into overtime as the Winnipeg Jets edged Dallas 5-4. Cole Perfetti, Jansen Harkins, Adam Lowry and Kyle Connor scored in regulation for the Jets who wrap up their three-game road trip Sunday against the Blackhawks in Chicago


The Manitoba Moose lost 3-0 to Grand Rapids. Jussi Olkinuora made 26 saves in net for the Griffins. Moose netminder Arvid Holm stopped 31 shots.


Manitoba champions Zachary Wasylik and Lisa Birchard lost a pair of playoff games Friday and were eliminated at the 2022 Everest Curling Club Championships at the Ice Palace in the West Edmonton Mall.
