The Winnipeg Jets meet the Colorado Avalanche tonight (6 p.m.) at Canada Life Centre in game one of the NHL’s Western Conference quarterfinal series. The Jets won all three games between the two teams during the regular season schedule and outscored the Avalanche 17-4.


The Manitoba Moose are heading into the Calder Cup playoffs on a winning note. Brad Lambert scored his 21st goal of the season and Thomas Milic and Brett Brochu combined to make 28 saves as Manitoba defeated the Texas Stars 4-1. The Moose and Stars will meet in the best-of-three opening round series that starts Tuesday, April 23rd in Cedar Park.


The Winkler Flyers face the defending champion Steinbach Pistons tonight (7 p.m.) at the Centennial Arena in game two of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League’s best-of-seven final for the Turnbull Cup. The Flyers won the series opener 2-1 Friday night in Niverville and extended their road winning streak to five games.


Toronto, Boston and Ottawa were winners in the Professional Women’s Hockey League on Saturday. Sarah Nurse scored her second goal of the game 13 seconds into overtime and Brandon’s Kristen Campbell made 37 saves as Toronto shaded Montreal 3-2 in front of a record-breaking crowd of 21,105 at the Bell Centre. Lexie Adzija scored the go-ahead goal with 3:09 left as Boston edged New York 2-1. Elm Creek’s Corinne Schroeder stopped 36 shots in net for New York. Brianne Jenner had a hat trick and Deloraine’s Ashton Bell potted her second of the season in Ottawa’s 4-0 victory over Minnesota.


Brandon Wheat Kings defenseman Charlie Elick had a goal and an assist as Canada defeated Finland 5-1 in its first pre-tournament game ahead of the 2024 World U18 Hockey Championship. Team Canada’s final pre-tournament game is Tuesday in Vantaa, Finland.


Manitoba and Canadian champions Kadriana & Colton Lott won their round robin opener 7-2 over Courtney Smith & Anton Hood of New Zealand at the World Mixed Doubles Curling Championship in Oestersund, Sweden. Lott & Lott will meet Zuzana Paulova & Tomas Paul of Czechia at 3 a.m. and Vanessa Tonoli & Wouter Goesgens of the Netherlands at 11 a.m.
