Matt Dunstone will meet Reid Carruthers in the final of the 2023 Viterra Provincial Men’s Curling Championship at 2:30 p.m. at the Yellowhead Centre in Neepawa. Dunstone defeated Braden Calvert 8-4 in this morning's semifinal. Carruthers beat Calvert 7-4 in the 1-2 page playoff game Saturday night and earned a bye to the final.
 

The Tiger Hills Hockey League's regular season schedule came to an end and the playoffs began on Saturday night. The West Division quarterfinals feature the Miniota/Elhorn C-Hawks against the Souris Elks; the Killarney Shamrocks face the Melita Bisons; the Virden Oil Kings take on the Hartney Blues and the Rivers Jets meet the Deloraine Royals. The East Division quarterfinals have the Gladstone Lakers against the Carberry Plainsmen; the Wawanesa Jets take on the Cartwright Clippers and the Neepawa Farmers face the MacGregor Wild. Shane Jury, Clay Bergeson and Tony Partridge scored two goals each as the Minnedosa Bombers beat the Pilot Mound Pilots 8-2 in game one of their series.


In the Westman High School Hockey League – Logan Gudnason had three goals and two assists as Killarney/Wawanesa downed Roblin/Grandview/Gilbert Plains 6-1; Tyler Rogers had a hat trick as Vincent Massey beat Sandy Bay 9-1 and Peyton Tolton potted the shootout winner as Hamiota/Rivers/Elton/Strathclair edged Birtle/Shoal Lake/Rossburn 4-3.


Dawson Andries scored twice and Brett Laing had three assists as the Southwest Cougars defeated the Norman Northstars 7-2 in Thompson. The Cougars moved one point ahead of the Interlake Lightning in the race for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Manitoba U18 AAA Hockey League. The Cougars have four games left in their regular season schedule and have two games in hand on the Lightning.


Kelsey Huibers and Hayley Kolosky did the goal scoring as the Westman Wildcats edged the Eastman Selects 2-1 in Niverville. The defending Manitoba U18 AAA Hockey League champions will play their regular season finale today against the Central Plains Capitals in Hartney.


Trevor Hunt, Colten Miller and Joey Bielik scored before the nine-minute mark of the first period as the Virden Oil Capitals downed the Blues 4-1 in Winnipeg. Davis Chorney also scored for the Caps. Virden’s Eric Reid made 18 saves.


The Brandon Wheat Kings and Winnipeg Ice were winners on home ice Saturday night. Brett Hyland and Dawson Pasternak scored two minutes and thirty-three seconds apart early in the third period as the Wheat Kings rallied from a 2-0 deficit and beat the Calgary Hitmen 3-2. The Ice scored five first period goals en route to a 7-1 victory over the Edmonton Oil Kings.


Blake Wheeler had two goals and an assist as the Winnipeg Jets downed the Chicago Blackhawks 4-1 at Canada Life Centre. Josh Morrissey and Mark Scheifele with his 32nd of the season also scored for Winnipeg. Connor Hellebuyck made 31 saves for the Jets who played their first game since January 30th.


Oskari Salminen made 35 saves as the Manitoba Moose defeated the Grand Rapids Griffins 5-1. Jansen Harkins and Kristian Reichel each had a goal and an assist for the Moose.


Shaela Hayward of Carman and Colton Olafson of Portage Collegiate captured the 2023 Provincial High School Curling Championships Saturday in The Pas. Hayward, Keira Krahn, Rylie Cox and India Young defeated Dahlia Snaith of Carberry 10-4 in the “B” side final. The Carman Cougars foursome went undefeated and won the provincial championship banner for the second year in a row. Olafson, Nolan Ross, Tristan Blight and Hunter Jeffries downed Scott Gower of Dauphin 12-7 in the “B” final and also went undefeated.


Shyla Johnson & Max Barrett of Garden City won the Provincial High School Mixed Doubles Curling Championship in Rivers. Johnson & Barrett shutout Luke Robins & Ella Robins of West Kildonan 10-0. Dawson Strange & Emerson Urquhart of Killarney and Kaiden Anderson & Jackson McCutchin of Carberry lost out in the round of 16. Strange & Urquhart dropped a10-3 decision to Kierra Hickman & Warrick Gunther of Ashern. Anderson & McCutchin fell 7-1 to Annabelle Lanthier & Colton Graham of Morden.
