The Killarney Shamrocks, Gladstone Lakers, Virden Oil Kings and Rivers Jets have joined the Miniota/Elkhorn C-Hawks and Minnedosa Bombers in round two of the Tiger Hills Hockey League playoffs. Killarney bounced the Pilot Mound Pilots 13-1 and Gladstone beat the Wawanesa Jets 6-3. The Shamrocks and Lakers swept those best-of-three East Division quarterfinal in two straight. Virden shutdown the Deloraine Royals 7-0 and Rivers rallied from a 3-1 deficit and beat the Melita Bisons 4-3. The Oil Kings and Jets took those West Division quarterfinals two games to none.


Rylan Bray had two goals and two assists as the Westman High School Hockey League leading Neepawa Tigers defeated the Sandy Bay Badgers 9-3. Carter Dittmer scored six times as Vincent Massey downed Boissevain/Souris/Deloraine/Waskada 16-4. Tyler Knol made 19 saves in recording the shutout as Glenboro/Carberry/Baldur defeated Reston/Elkhorn/Melita/Hartney 6-0. Carson Smith and Ethan King scored two goals each as Hamiota/Rivers/Elton/Strathclair doubled up on Birtle/Shoal Lake/Rossburn 4-2. Swan Valley downed Crocus Plains 4-1. Brady Burghart had a hat trick for the Tigers. Coleton Beaty had a goal and three assists as Virden downed Roblin/Grandview/Gilbert Plains 11-1.


The Southwest Cougars dropped a 4-3 decision to the Winnipeg Thrashers in Souris. Drew Shiels, Nate Robson and Jack Clark with his 23rd of the season did the goal scoring for the Cougars who led 1-0 after the first period and trailed 3-2 after forty minutes.


Grady Lane had two goals and an assist in the Virden Oil Capitals 6-3 victory over the Nighthawks in Niverville. Joey Bielik, Tyler Dodgson, Ethan Guthrie and Marshall Light also scored for the MJHL’s West Division leading Oil Capitals.


Gabe Vilardi scored twice and Mark Scheifele had a goal and three assists as the Winnipeg Jets downed the Vancouver Canucks 4-2. Vilardi and Sean Monahan scored power play goals for the Jets who have won three in a row. Connor Hellebuyck made 35 saves in net for Winnipeg.


The Manitoba Moose lost 4-0 to the Milwaukee Admirals at Canada Life Centre. Phil Tomasino and Tye Felhaber had two goals each for the Admirals. Yaroslav Askarov made 14 saves in recording the shutout.


New York and Minnesota were winners in the Professional Women’s Hockey League Saturday afternoon. Nicole Hensley made 28 saves as Minnesota shaded Ottawa 2-1. Alex Carpenter scored 2:28 into overtime and Elm Creek’s Corinne Schroeder made 34 saves as New York edged Boston 2-1.
