Reese Schutte scored twice and Danica Averill made 25 saves as the Westman Wildcats defeated the Interlake Lightning 4-1 in Hartney. Karlyn Gudz and Shayla Scinocca also scored for the Wildcats.

Evan Svoboda stopped 19 shots in the Southwest Cougars 3-1 victory over the Parkland Rangers in Souris. Jackson Kohut, Jack Clark and Jackson Hofer did the goal scoring for the Cougars.


The Virden Oil Capitals jumped out to a 3-0 first period lead and beat the OCN Blizzard 6-3. Nolan Chastko had three goals and an assist for the visitors. Noel Englot, Evan Groening and Brett Sable also scored for the Oil Capitals. Liam Bechthold made 20 saves in net for Virden.

Boissevain/Souris/Deloraine/Waskada scored four third period goals and defeated the defending Westman High School Hockey League champion Swan Valley Tigers. Carter Elliott had a seven-point night with three goals and four assists as Glenboro/Carberry/Baldur blanked Birtle/Shoal Lake/Rossburn 10-0. Dylan Ewasiuk scored the shootout winner as Minnedosa/Erickson shaded Crocus Plains 5-4. Jackson Buchanan scored twice in the Dauphin Clippers 6-0 victory over Reston/Elkhorn/Melita/Hartney. Josh Romanik had two goals and an assist as the Vincent Massey Vikings beat the Virden Golden Bears 5-3.


There were six games and five hat tricks in the Tiger Hills Hockey League on Saturday night. Jason Bowles had three goals and an assist as the defending champion Miniota/Elkhorn C-Hawks defeated the Gladstone Lakers 6-3. Bryce Enns had three goals and an assist as the Killarney Shamrocks downed the Rivers Jets 9-2. Zak Hicks had three goals and two assists as the Neepawa Farmers beat the Melita Bisons 10-3. Matt Saler had three goals and an assist in the Minnedosa Bombers 7-5 victory over the MacGregor Wild. Colin Cool had three goals and an assist as the Virden Oil Kings downed the Pilot Mound Pilots 8-4. Jesse Linner had two goals and two assists as the Hartney Blues beat the Carberry Plainsmen 6-4.


Ethan Eskit made 38 saves and Brett Hyland had two goals and an assist as the Brandon Wheat Kings shutdown the Lethbridge Hurricanes 6-0 at Westoba Place. Carter Klippenstein, Charlie Elik, Dominik Petr and Nolan Flamand also scored for the Wheat Kings.


The Winnipeg Jets recorded win number 30 Saturday afternoon in our nation's capital. Nikolaj Ehlers scored 4:14 into overtime to lift Winnipeg past Ottawa 2-1. Mason Appleton scored in regulation and Connor Hellebuyck made 34 saves. The Jets (30-10-4) face the Boston Bruins on Monday and then wrap up their three-game road trip Wednesday against the Toronto Maple Leafs.


The Manitoba Moose gave up four unanswered third period goals and lost 5-4 to Grand Rapids at Canada Life Centre. Austin Czarnik scored the tying goal with 42 seconds left in regulation and Zach Aston-Reece potted the go-ahead goal 30 seconds later. Nikita Chibrikov had a pair of goals for the Moose who have lost nine in a row.


Toronto and New York were winners in the Professional Women’s Hockey League. Ste. Anne’s Jocelyne Larocque scored her first goal of the season and Lauriane Rougeau potted the shootout winner as Toronto edged Montreal 4-3. Brandon's Kristen Campbell stopped 21 of the 24 shots she faced in regulation and overtime as well as five of the six shots she saw in the shootout. Elm Creek’s Corinne Schroeder made 32 saves and Jade Downie-Landry had a hat trick as New York beat Boston 4-1.


Kerri Einarson and Jennifer Jones lost out in the semifinals of the Grand Slam of Curling's Canadian Open in Red Deer. Einarson gave up two in the eighth end and fell 6-5 to Silvana Tirinzoni. Jones dropped an 8-3 decision to Rachel Homan. Matt Dunstone lost 7-3 to Brendan Bottcher in the quarterfinals.
