Braxton Kuntz of Breezy Bend won the Provincial Men’s Amateur Golf Championship Saturday at Elmhurst. Kuntz, who fired a final round four-over par 75 and finished with a 54-hole total of four-under par 209, was two shots clear of 2020 champion Marco Trstenjak of Elmhurst. It’s the second year in a row Kuntz has won both the Provincial Junior Men’s and Men’s Amateur Championships. Evan Nachtigall of Wheat City (74-75-74) finished in a tie for 11th place at plus 10. Ross Sheard of Wheat City (80-76-71) was plus 14; Scott Miner of Brandon (75-80-77) was plus 19; Nolan Tutkaluk of Shilo (81-77-75) was plus 20; Ryan McKean of Wheat City (77-75-85) was plus 24 and Brad Pardy of Shilo (79-80-82) was plus 28.


Team Manitoba, who finished with a 1-3 round robin record at Baseball Canada’s Women’s Invitational Championship at Quarry Park in Stonewall, will face Ontario (2) at 9 a.m. in the 8/9 placement game.


Max Murphy drilled a pair of home runs and David Washington also went deep as the Winnipeg Goldeyes defeated the Gary SouthShore RailCats 9-4. Goldeyes shortstop Raul Navarro had a bunt single in the top of the third inning and extended his hitting streak to 14 games.


The Manitoba Moose will play their 2022-23 American Hockey League season opener October 15th against the Rockford IceHogs at Canada Life Centre. The Moose schedule features 24 games against Canadian competition this season. Manitoba has eight games slated against the Abbotsford Canucks and four games against Belleville, Calgary, Laval and Toronto.
