The Boissevain Broncos lost 16-12 to the Garden City Fighting Gophers in the final of the Provincial High School Baseball Championship in Glenboro. Boissevain blanked Garden Valley 10-0 in the semifinals. Connor Martin, Mason De Ruyck and Bryan Laing of the Broncos were named tournament all-stars.


The Virden Bears will face Sanford in the quarterfinals at the Provincial High School Fastpitch Championship in Ile des Chenes. Virden beat Steinbach Regional 13-2 and lost 6-0 to the Vincent Massey Trojans in Pool play. The Bears downed Mikisew 13-3 in their playoff opener. Presley Hodson and Kendall Charles of Virden were named tournament all-stars. Danika Nell of the Trojans was chosen the MVP.


Corey Billaney and Junior Brake of Boissevain were inducted into the Manitoba Baseball Hall of Fame Saturday in Morden. Laurie Langrell of Warren, Patti Hacault of Holland and Keith Carriere and Jeff Bouchard of Winnipeg were also added to the Hall of Fame. T.G. Smith and Todd Smith were inducted posthumously. The four teams inducted were the 1953-56 Norwood Community Club Juvenile and Junior teams, the 2006-2015 Minnedosa Mavericks teams, the 2009-2013 Reston Rockets teams and the 1966 Hamiota Royals Juvenile team.


The Winnipeg Goldeyes losing streak has reached five games. The Fish were shutout 6-0 by the Lake Country DockHounds. Winnipeg third baseman Dayson Croes singled in the sixth inning and extended his hitting streak to 17 games.


Quarterback Josh Jones and kicker Marc Liegghio were released Saturday as the Winnipeg Blue Bombers set their week one roster. The Blue Bombers will open the 2023 CFL season Friday against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats at IG Field.


Evan Nachtigall of Wheat City defeated Eric Prokopowich of Dauphin 3 & 2 and will face Marco Trstenjak of Pine Ridge in the today’s semifinals of Golf Manitoba’s Provincial Men's Match Play Championship at the Glendale Golf & Country Club in Winnipeg. Jeri Lafleche of Clear Lake beat Cala Korman of Killarney 1-up and Clara Peake of Binscarth eliminated Kate Gregoire of Quarry Oaks 6 & 5 in the women's quarterfinals. Lafleche and Peake will meet in the semifinals.


The 2023 Manitoba Junior Hockey League Draft takes place today. The Virden Oil Capitals have the eighth overall pick in round one. The Winnipeg Freeze have the first selection.
