The Souris Sabres are Provincial A/AA Junior Varsity boys basketball champions. The Sabres edged Immanuel Christian 69-66 in the final Saturday in Winnipeg. William Morton of Gladstone downed Souris 36-21 in the girls final. Miller Collegiate of Altona girls and Windsor Park boys captured the Provincial AAA JV championships.


The Southwest Cougars season came to an end Saturday night in Souris. Acoyen Fehr scored 7:43 into overtime to lift the Pembina Valley Hawks past Southwest 2-1 in the deciding fifth game of their opening round series. Tyson Draper had the lone goal for the Cougars. The Hawks will face the Brandon Wheat Kings and the Winnipeg Wild meet the Winnipeg Thrashers in the semifinals.


Ivy Perkin scored the lone Westman goal in the Wildcats 4-1 loss to the Eastman Selects in Niverville. The Manitoba Female U18 AAA Hockey League semifinal is tied at one. Game three goes Sunday in Hartney.


Carter Dittmer scored in overtime to lift the Vincent Massey Vikings past Hamiota/Rivers/Elton/Strathclair 3-2. That was the first game of the Westman High School Hockey League’s best-of-three semifinal. The Boissevain/Souris/Deloraine/Waskada Broncos and Major Pratt Trojans won their consolation openers. Ethan Williams made 30 saves as the Broncos downed the Virden Golden Bears 5-2 and Raphael Mowbray had a goal and three helpers as the Trojans shaded Birtle/Shoal Lake Rossburn 7-6.


The Killarney Shamrocks are one win away from advancing to the THHL final. The Shamrocks downed the Lakers 9-3 in Gladstone and now lead the best-of-five East Division final two games to none. Game three goes Sunday in Killarney.


The Brandon Wheat Kings dropped a 6-3 decision to the Broncos in Swift Current. Jayden Wiens, Matteo Michels and Caleb Hadland did the goal scoring for the Wheat Kings.


The Winnipeg Jets lost 5-0 to the Vancouver Canucks. The Jets trailed 3-0 after the first period and 4-0 after forty minutes. Connor Hellebuyck made 32 saves for the visiting Jets (40-18-5), who were coming off a 3-0 victory over the Kraken in Seattle Friday night.


Kristian Reichel had a goal and an assist and Thomas Milic made 22 saves as the Manitoba Moose downed the Iowa Wild 4-1.


Defending champion Brad Gushue defeated Brendan Bottcher of Alberta 7-3 in the 1-2 Page Playoff game and will play in the Brier final Sunday night in Regina. Bottcher will meet Mike McEwen of Saskatchewan in the semifinal at 1 p.m. McEwen beat Matt Dunstone of Manitoba 6-5 in the 3-4 Page Playoff game.
