The class of 2020 and the class of 2022 were inducted into the Manitoba Curling Hall of Fame Saturday night in Winnipeg. The 2020 inductees included Jeff Stoughton’s 2011 World Men’s Championship team, Darcy Kirkness’ 1984 Canadian Junior Women’s Championship team, curlers Vic Peters, Chris Neufeld & Karen Purdy along with past CurlManitoba and Curling Canada president Resby Coutts. Ernie Oliver was inducted into the Hall of Fame during the Manitoba Stick Curling Annual Meeting last September. The 2022 inductees included Garry Ross’ 2001 Canadian Senior Men’s Championship team, Carl German’s 2002 Canadian Senior Men’s Championship team, Barry Fry’s 2001 Canadian Masters Championship team, Ken Grove’s 2002 Canadian Masters Championship team, Olympians Ryan Fry and Caroline Darbyshire, 1995 World champions Keith Fenton and Jeff Ryan along with former MLCA president Judy Brown.


The Winnipeg Blue Bombers first practice of main camp was canceled Sunday morning. The collective bargaining agreement between the players and owners expired Saturday night at 11:01 p.m. The Canadian Football League Players Association called for strike action after it rejected the latest proposal from the league.


Canada has a 2-0 preliminary round record at the 2022 World Men’s Hockey Championship in Helsinki. Elkhorn’s Travis Sanheim opened the scoring for Team Canada in their 6-1 victory over Italy. Josh Anderson, Nicolas Roy, Kent Johnson, Dysin Mayo and Noah Gregor also scored for the Canadians who face Slovakia on Monday.


The Winnipeg Goldeyes recorded their first win of the 2022 American Baseball Association season Saturday night at Shaw Park. Logan Hill drilled a go-ahead solo home run in the bottom of the eighth inning as the Goldeyes outscored the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks 7-6. Andrew Martinez had a first inning grand slam for the Fish.
