The Melfort Mustangs will face the Collingwood Blues in the gold medal game today (2 p.m.) at the Centennial Cup in Oakville, Ontario. Ryan Duguay scored the go-ahead goal 10:49 into the second period as the Mustangs defeated the Calgary Canucks 2-1. Jack Rimmer scored twice in the Blues 5-2 victory over the Miramichi Timberwolves in the other semifinal.


Canada will face Switzerland today (1:20 p.m.) at the 2024 World Men’s Hockey Championship in Prague. Host Czechia leads the standings in Group A with 15 points. Canada and Switzerland are next with 14 points each. Canada rallied from an early 2-0 deficit and beat Finland 5-3 on Saturday. Dylan Cozens, Brandon Tanev, Owen Power, Brandon Hagel and Dawson Mercer did the goal scoring for the Canadians who clinched a spot in the quarterfinals.


The Winnipeg Goldeyes dropped a 5-3 decision to the defending American Association champion Kansas City Monarchs. First baseman Jake McMurray had three hits for the Goldeyes who wrap up their season opening 10-game road trip Sunday against the Monarchs.


The Winnipeg Blue Bombers play their first of two pre-season games Monday against the Saskatchewan Roughriders in Regina. The Bombers added American receiver Josh Vann and American defensive back Michael Griffin to its training camp roster and released American receiver KJ Hill and American defensive back Marcus Hillman.
