Daniel Hauser made 27 saves, Connor McClennon and Mikey Milne scored power play goals and Matthew Savoie and Zachary Benson had shorthanded markers as the Winnipeg Ice defeated the Moose Jaw Warriors 7-0 Saturday night at Wayne Fleming Arena. Jack Finley had a pair of goals for the Ice before the four minute mark of the first period. Winnipeg leads the Western Hockey League’s best-of-seven Eastern Conference semifinal two games to none. The series now shifts to Moose Jaw for games three and four on Tuesday and Wednesday.


Winkler Flyers forward Justin Svenson, who lead the Manitoba Junior Hockey League in scoring with 33 goals and 82 points in 54 games, has committed to play USPORTS hockey at Ontario Tech University. The 21-year-old Ile des Chenes native is a finalist for the Canadian Junior Hockey League’s Top Forward award.


The Manitoba Moose will need to put together a three-game winning streak in order to keep their season alive. Jimmy Huntington scored the go-ahead goal with 46 seconds left in regulation to lift the Milwaukee Admirals past Manitoba 2-1. Moose forward Morgan Barron had tied the game at 1-1 at 18:31 of the third period. The Admirals lead the American Hockey League’s best-of-five Central Division semifinal two games to none. Game three goes Wednesday at Canada Life Centre.


Jordon McDonald, Ryan Ostrowsky, Zoey Terrick and Grace Beaudry played their final consolation draw games Saturday at the 2022 Canadian U18 Curling Championships in Oakville, Ontario. McDonald dropped a 6-4 decision to Kinley Burton of Alberta; Ostrowsky fell 4-3 to Simon Perry of Newfoundland & Labrador; Terrick beat Cailey Locke of Newfoundland & Labrador 10-3 and Beaudry downed Locke 8-3. McDonald finished with four wins and four losses; Ostrowsky had three wins and six losses; Terrick had three wins and four losses while Beaudry recorded three wins and five losses.
