Jace Freeman of Virden won his round robin opener 7-5 over Zach Norris of Morris Wednesday night at the 2023 Provincial Junior Men's Curling Championships in Portage. Hunter Dundas of Brandon lost 9-2 to Ronan Peterson of the Heather and then beat Tanner Graham of the Heather 8-6. Freeman will meet Luke Robins of West St. Paul and Dundas will face Jordon McDonald of Deer Lodge at 11 a.m. Katy Lukowich of the Granite will take on Zoey Terrick of the Heather in the Junior Womens A event final at 3:30 p.m. The winner advances to this weekend's page playoff. The loser will drop to the B event final. 


In the Westman High School Hockey League - Rayan Sprott scored twice as the Boissevain/Souris Broncos downed the Deloraine/Hartney Colts 5-1; Connor Martin scored his 25th goal of the season with 4:38 left to lift the Killarney/Wawanesa Raiders past Reston/Elkhorn/Melita/Pierson 4-3. Tarek Lapointe had six goals and two assists in the Neepawa Tigers 13-1 victory over the Crocus Plainsmen and Ethan Carnegie scored twice as the Dauphin Clippers beat the Major Pratt Trojans 4-2.


Virden Oil Capitals goaltender Owen LaRocque is a Manitoba Junior Hockey League Star of the Week. The 17-year-old Wawanesa native stopped 66 of 70 shots as the Oil Capitals recorded a pair of 3-2 wins over the Steinbach Pistons this past weekend. 


Carson Lambos scored twice and Zach Benson and Connor McClennon each had a goal and three helpers as the Winnipeg Ice defeated the Raiders 8-1 in Prince Albert. Carson Latimer, Conor Geekie, Easton Armstrong and Ty Nash also scored for the visitors. 


The Manitoba Moose gave up three first period goals and lost 6-2 to the Chicago Wolves at Canada Life Centre. Leon Gawanke and Brayden Burke did the goal scoring for the Moose.
