The Boissevain Centennials have advanced to the South West Baseball League's championship series. Jay Pringle, Ben Cairns and Sylar Canada drove in three runs each as the defending champion Centennials downed the Red Sox 14-7 in Hamiota and took the best-of-five semifinal three games to one. Justin Knight homered for the Red Sox. Game four was tied 5-5 after four innings. Boissevain pulled away with three runs in the fifth, two in the sixth and four in the top of seven. 


Team Manitoba will play its round robin opener against Ontario (2) at the 2023 Baseball Canada Women's Invitational Championship in Upper Sackville, Nova Scotia. Zoe Hicks and Ally Neufeld of Boissevain are on Team Manitoba's roster.


The St. Boniface Legionaires are Manitoba Junior Baseball League champions for the first time since the summer of 2010. Kaden Rozdeba drilled a second inning grand slam and Zach Evanochko added a three-run shot in the top of the third as the Legionaires defeated the Elmwood Giants 11-0 at Koskie Field. St. Boniface swept the best-of-five final in three straight ending the Giants' five-year run as MJBL champs. Legionaires starter Zachari Teffaine allowed four hits and struck out six in game three which was called after five innings because of the 10-run rule. 


Keith Torres and Max Murphy homered as the Winnipeg Goldeyes downed the Sioux City Explorers 10-3 at Shaw Park. Hidekel Gonzalez and Tra Holmes stroked two-run singles in the Goldeyes six-run eighth inning. The Fish have won four in a row.


Cala Korman of Killarney is in a tie for 35th place heading into the final round of the Canadian Junior Girls Golf Championship in Hampton, New Brunswick. Korman was five-over par 76 Wednesday and is plus 18 through 54 holes. Addison Kartusch of Winnipeg was 84 and is plus 20 while Jeri Lafleche of Winnipeg was 77 and is plus 21. 


Marissa Naylor is the low Manitoban heading into the final round of the Canadian Women's Mid-Amateur Championship at the Mad River Golf Club in Creemore, Ontario. Naylor was 10-over par 82 Wednesday and is in a tie for 10th place at plus 15. Charmaine Hayden was 81 and plus 16; Hannah Diamond was 90 and plus 25; Katherine McGlenen was 88 and plus 32 while Nicole McGlenen was 99 and is plus 43. Naylor, Diamond and Hayden finished fourth in the inter-provincial team competition. Manitoba was six shots back of Quebec. 


41 PGA of Manitoba Professionals including Brandon's Austin Dobrescu of Mulligan's Driving Range & Practice Centre will tee it up in the PGA of Manitoba Championship at the Niakwa Country Club in Winnipeg today and tomorrow. This is the largest field in recent memory and includes past champions Bret Thompson of Golf Mentor, Dean North of Carman, Derrik Goodwin of Glendale and host course head professional Terry Reilly.


Adriana Leon scored the go-ahead goal in the 53rd minute as Canada edged Ireland 2-1 at the FIFA Women's World Cup in Perth. It was Canada's first win of the tournament following a scoreless draw with Nigeria last Thursday, Canada will play its final Group Stage match against co-host Australia Monday morning.
