Paul Maurice is the new head coach of the Florida Panthers. Maurice was 315-223-62 in 600 games behind the Winnipeg Jets bench, including 13-10-5 record this season before resigning on December 17th after nine seasons with the hockey club. Maurice replaces Andrew Brunette, who went 51-18-6 and guided the Panthers to the Presidents' Trophy. Brunette was runner-up for the Jack Adams Award as coach of the year.


Jaxsen Wiebe scored his third goal of the game in overtime to lift the Western Hockey League champion Edmonton Oil Kings past the host Saint John Sea Dogs 4-3 at the Memorial Cup in New Brunswick. 


The Boissevain Centennials plated five runs in the top of the seventh inning and beat the Oak River Dodgers 8-6 in the lone Southwest Baseball League game Wednesday night. Ben Cairns had three hits and Austin Clyne homered for the Centennials. Brayden Heapy and Riley Shamray had two hits each for the Dodgers. Boissevain improved to 7-2 on the season while Oak River is 4-5. 


Max Murphy had three hits and Ian Sagdal had four rbi as the Winnpeg Goldeyes downed Cleburne14-7. The Fish and Railroaders wrap up their three game series tonight Texas.


The Winnipeg Blue Bombers released American offensive lineman Cam Durley from the practice roster. The Bombers will put their 2-0 record on the line Friday night when they face the Hamilton Tiger-Cats at IG Field.
