The Provincial High School Baseball Championship begins today in Brandon. The Boissevain/Wawanesa Broncos meet McCreary/Ste. Rose at 9:30 a.m. and the host Vincent Massey Vikings at 3 p.m. The Stonewall Rams, Garden City Fighting Gophers and the Helen Betty Osborne Huskies are in Pool One. The Garden Valley Zodiacs of Winkler, Steinbach Regional and Carberry/Cartwright/Baldur are in Pool Three while the Portage Collegiate Trojans, Birtle/Shoal Lake/Strathclair and William Morton of Gladstone are in Pool Four. The top two teams in each pool advance to the quarterfinals.


The Pilot Mound Pilots defeated the Virden Golden Bears 10-0 in Glenboro and qualified for the Provincial High School Fastpitch Championship that begins Friday in Brandon. The Boissevain Broncos are representing Zone 9.


The Winnipeg Goldeyes swept a twinbill from the Cleburne Railroaders at Shaw Park. Logan Hill homered as the Fish won the opener 5-1. Winnipeg scored six runs in the bottom of the third inning and took the second game 10-6.


The Manitoba Men's Match Play Championships begin today at Quarry Oaks near Steinbach. Scott Miner of Wheat City will meet Ryan Blair of Elmhurst, Evan Nachtigall of Wheat City will take on Matt Glowa of Rossmere, Hayden Delaloye of Neepawa will face Mark Di Ubaldo of Breezy Bend, Brad Pardy of Shilo will meet Jamie Roy of Quarry Oaks and Ryden Hargreaves of Shilo will take on Aiden Kleer of Winnipeg in the round of 32. The Women's and Senior Men's Match Play Championships begin Friday.


The University of Manitoba Bisons men's golf team is in a tie for 16th place after day one of the 2022 Canadian University/College Championships in Bromont, Quebec. The Bisons are 30 shots back of the first place University of British Columbia Thunderbirds. Stefan Lavallee was the low Bison as he fired an even par 72 and is 11th overall in the individual competition. Brent Ingram was 77, Connor Stewart was 80, Lachlan Allerton was 84 and Cole Peters was 85.
