The Winnipeg Ice will play in the Western Hockey League's Eastern Conference final for the second year in a row. Winnipeg scored six second period goals en route to an 8-2 victory over the Warriors in Moose Jaw. Conor Geekie and Connor McClennon had two goals each for the Ice who took the best-of-seven second round series four games to two. Zack Ostapchuk, Graham Sward, Vladislav Shilo and Evan Friesen also scored for Winnipeg. Jagger Firkus and Dominion City's Denton Mateychuk did the goal scoring for the Warriors. 


Canada will play its final preliminary round game today (11:30 a.m.) against Czechia at the 2023 World U18 Hockey Championship in Porrentruy, Switzerland. Team Canada has won two straight after losing its opener to Sweden. Canada will clinch second place in Group A with a win over the Czechs.


The Winnipeg Jets are on the brink of playoff elimination. Oakbank's Brett Howden scored twice and Laurent Brossoit made 24 saves as Vegas defeated Winnipeg 4-2 Monday night at Canada Life Centre. William Karlsson and Ivan Barbashev also scored for the Golden Knights who lead the NHL's Western Conference quarterfinal three games to one. Pierre-Luc Dubois and Blake Wheeler scored power play goals for the Jets who lost forward Mark Scheifele early in the first period with an upper-body injury. He'll be reevaluated today.


Canadian champions Jennifer Jones & Brent Laing from Horseshoe Valley, Ontario won their only game Tuesday at the at the 2023 World Mixed Doubles Curling Championship Gangneung Curling Centre in Gangneung, South Korea, defeating a young Czech Republic entry of 17-year-old Julie Zelingrova & 18-year-old Vit Chabicovsky 8-3. The win left Jones & Laing with a 5-1 record, tied for first place with Estonia’s Marie Kaldvee & Harri Lill in their 10-team round-robin pool, from which three teams will advance, along with three teams from the other pool, to the playoffs, which begin Friday.
