Canada is still perfect at the World Men's Hockey Championship in Helsinki. Pierre-Luc Dubois scored twice as Canada downed Slovakia 5-1. Adam Lowry and Strathclair's Morgan Geekie also scored for the Canadians who have a 3-0 preliminary round record. Canada's next game is Thursday against Kazakhstan.


The Western Hockey League announced Monday the schedule for the Eastern Conference Championship Series between the Winnipeg Ice and Edmonton Oil Kings. The best-of-seven conference final will begin Friday, May 20th in Winnipeg. The Eastern Conference Championship Series will feature the top two teams from the 2021-22 regular season. The Ice were 53-10-3-2 and captured the Scotty Munro Memorial Trophy. The Central Division winning Oil Kings were 50-14-3-1. The Ice advanced to the Eastern Conference Championship series after defeating the Prince Albert Raiders in five games and the Moose Jaw Warriors in five games, while the Edmonton Oil Kings completed back-to-back series sweeps of the Lethbridge Hurricanes and Red Deer Rebels. The Ice and Oil Kings met four times during the 2021-22 WHL Regular Season, with Edmonton emerging triumphant three times. Game two goes Saturday in Winnipeg. The series then shifts to Edmonton next week for games three, four and if necessary game five.


The Saskatchewan Roughriders are the fourth Canadian Football League team to cancel training camp practices after the league and players broke off negotiations on a new collective bargaining agreement. The Montreal Alouettes, Hamilton Tiger-Cats and Toronto Argonauts cancelled practices on Sunday, one day after negotiations between the two sides stopped, putting players on seven of the league's nine teams in a legal strike position. Hamilton players plan to stand outside the team's stadium today in a show of unity.


The Winnipeg Blue Bombers signed American defensive back Jamal Parker. The Pennsauken, New Jersey native joins the Blue Bombers after a four-year college career with the Kent State Golden Flashes. During his freshman season, Parker appeared in 12 games while starting seven. The following season Parker led his team in passes broken up and was fourth in tackles. During his Junior season, he was named a team captain and started each game. Parker finished his career with 230 tackles, 28 passes broken up, and 9 interceptions. Parker was named to Athlon's preseason All-MAC First Team Defense and All-MAC Third Team Specialists. The Blue Bombers also released National linebacker Robbie Lowes and transferred American quarterback Chase Litton and American defensive back Tyrique McGhee to the suspended list.
