The host Portage Terriers suffered their first loss at the Centennial Cup Monday night at Stride Place. Bradley Blake and Jake Southgate scored power play goals as the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League champion Battlefords North Stars defeated the Terriers 3-2. Matt Wisener and Tayem Gislason replied for Portage. The Terriers (2-0-1-0) and North Stars (2-0-1-0) are tied for first place in Group B with six points each. The Ontario Junior Hockey League champion Collingwood Blues (1-1-0-0) are next with five points while the Steinbach Pistons (1-0-1-1) have four. The Manitoba Junior Hockey League champions play their final preliminary round game tonight against Battlefords. The top three teams in the group advance to the playoffs. The preliminary round ends Wednesday. 


Jack Quinn scored the shootout winner as Canada edged Slovakia 2-1 at the World Hockey Championship in Riga, Latvia. Jake Neighbours scored in regulation for the Canadians who lead Group A with eight points. Canada's next preliminary round game is Wednesday against Kazakhstan. 


The Winnipeg Goldeyes gave up six runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and lost 10-6 to the defending American Association champion Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks at Newman Outdoor Field. RedHawks centre fielder Evan Alexander went 4-5 with a two-run homer, a pair of run-producing triples, and an RBI double. Designated hitter Chris Burgess had three hits for the Fish who have lost three straight. 


It's day three of Winnipeg Blue Bombers main camp. Todays practice session is from 8:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. The Bombers first exhibition game is Saturday, May 27th against the Edmonton Elks at Commonwealth Stadium.


Stony Mountain's Aaron Cockerill finished in a tie for 10th at the DP World Tour's Soudal Open in Antwerp, Belgium. Cockerill, who got in on the cutline, was nine under par over the weekend and finished at minus 11 which was six shots back of Simon Forsstrom. Cockerill is 23rd in the DP World Tour's Race to Dubai Rankings for the second week in a row.
