Goaltender Chase Hamm of the OCN Blizzard along with forwards Ty Paisley of the Steinbach Pistons and Mike Svenson of the Winkler Flyers have been named Manitoba Junior Hockey League Stars of the Week. Hamm stopped 63 of 65 shots as the Blizzard opened the season with a pair of wins over the Swan Valley Stampeders. Paisley had a goal and three assists in the Pistons two victories over the Niverville Nighthawks. Svenson had a four goal performance in the Flyers' 7-2 victory over the Winnipeg Blues in their home opener on Saturday night.
Dominic DiVincentiis made 44 saves as the Winnipeg Jets defeated the Calgary Flames 5-3 Monday at the Young Stars Classic in Penticton. Cole Perfetti, Chaz Lucius, Brad Lambert, Tyler Boland and Greg Meireles did the goal scoring for the Jets. Winnipeg lost 3-2 to the Edmonton Oilers in their tournament opener last Friday and 4-1 to the Vancouver Canucks this past Sunday. Jets training camp begins Thursday at Bell MTS Iceplex.
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have started their second of three bye weeks. The Blue Bombers, who are coming off a 48-31 loss to the Tiger-Cats in Hamilton this past Saturday, lead the CFL's West Division with a 12-2 record. The BC. Lions are next at 9-3 and the Calgary Stampeders are 8-5. Winnipeg will clinch a home playoff game if the Lions beat the Stampeders this weekend at BC Place Stadium. The Blue Bombers next game is Friday, September 30th against the Saskatchewan Roughriders at IG Field.
