The Virden Oil Capitals will meet the Winkler Flyers in round two of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League playoffs. Grady Lane scored twice as Virden defeated the Neepawa Titans 4-3 Tuesday night at the Yellowhead Centre. Roux Bazin and Evan Groening also scored for the Oil Capitals who took the best-of-seven West Division semifinal four games to two. Ewan Poirier, Hayden Stocks and Logan Paquette replied for the Titans. The game was scoreless after the first period and Neepawa had a 2-1 lead after 40 minutes. The OCN Blizzard host the Dauphin Kings tonight at the Roy H. Johnston Arena in the deciding seventh game of their opening round series. The Kings staved off elimination Monday night as Cayden Glover scored 3:07 into the fifth overtime period to lift Dauphin past OCN 3-2 at Credit Union Place in game six. Tonight's winner will take on the defending champion Steinbach Pistons in the semifinals. 


The Brandon Wheat Kings face the Moose Jaw Warriors tonight (7 p.m.) at Westoba Place in game three of the Western Hockey League's best-of-seven Eastern Conference quarterfinal. The Warriors defeated the Wheat Kings 7-4 and 5-4 in overtime in the first two games of the series this past weekend in Moose Jaw.


The Manitoba Moose dropped a 4-3 decision to the Abbotsford Canucks. Winnipeg native Jett Woo had a goal and an assist for the Canucks. Ville Heinola, Jeff Malott and Dominic Toninato scored for the Moose. 


Brad Gushue has a 6-1 round robin record at the World Men's Curling Championship in Schaffhausen, Switzerland. Gushue, vice-skip Mark Nichols, second E.J. Harnden and lead Geoff Walker defeated Wouter Goesgens of the Netherlands 7-4 this morning. Team Gushue will play their next game at 12 p.m. against Jongduk Park of Korea.


The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have signed three Americans -- offensive lineman Khalil Keith, linebacker Juan Lua and defensive back Montrae Braswell. Keith joins the Blue Bombers after playing two games in 2023 with the Philadelphia Stars of the USFL and following a mini-camp look by the New York Giants last year. Keith played in 47 games during his college days at Baylor (2017-22) with 20 of them starts, seeing action at both left guard and right tackle. Lua played safety with the UMass Minutemen last year, registering 23 tackles, two interceptions and seven pass breakups in 12 games. He began his collegiate career at College of the Desert in 2019 and then transferred to Saddleback College in 2021 and then to UMass in 2022. Braswell was a standout cornerback and kick returner for Missouri State. In 29 career games he recorded six interceptions, 25 passes defensed, two forced fumbles and 125 tackles, while as a returner he averaged 30.0 yards per return in three seasons, including touchdowns of 100, 96 and 98 yards. He signed with Kansas City following the 2023 NFL Draft, and later spent brief time with the Seahawks during training camp last season.
