The Virden Golden Bears and Neepawa Tigers were winners in the Westman High School Hockey League Tuesday night. Dexen Routledge had a hat trick and Owen Charles stopped 31 shots as Virden defeated Birtle/Shoal Lake/Rossburn 5-2. Beckham Clarke and Sage Price also scored for the Golden Bears. Haley Hunter and Haden Mackadenski replied for the Falcons. Cohen Kulbacki scored twice as Neepawa downed Hamiota/Rivers/Elton/Strathclair 4-1. Callan Denbow and Riley Davie also found the back of the net for the Tigers. Ethan King had the lone goal for the Huskies.


Sara Manness of La Salle and Avery Pickering of St. Adolphe are among the 23 players named to Team Canada's roster for the 2024 IIHF U18 Women's World Championship from January 6th-14th in Zug, Switzerland. Manness has 19 goals and 27 assists in 16 games for the Burlington Barracudas of the Ontario Women's Hockey Association's U22 Elite League. Pickering has three goals and two assists in her freshmen year playing on the blueline for the Eastern College Athletic Conference's Colgate Raiders. Pickering was on Canada's 2023 gold medal winning team.


Hockey Canada’s National Junior Team Selection Camp wraps up today in Oakville, Ontario. Team Canada hopefuls defeated a U Sports All-Star team 4-2 yesterday. Brandon Wheat Kings captain Nate Danielson played on a line with Owen Beck of the Peterborough Petes and Owen Allard of the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds. Wenatchee Wild forward Conor Geekie of Strathclair and Moose Jaw Warriors defenseman Denton Mateychuk of Dominion City did not dress. The two teams will play again this afternoon before Team Canada announces its 25-player roster for the 2024 World Junior Hockey Championship which begins Boxing Day in Gothenburg, Sweden.


The Professional Women's Hockey League has announced its final rosters ahead of the inaugural 2024 season that will begin on January 1st. All six teams consist of 26 players including 23 signed to standard player agreements and three reserves. Defender Ashton Bell of Deloraine is on Ottawa's roster; goaltender Kristen Campbell of Brandon and defender Jocelyne Larocque of Ste. Anne are with Toronto; goaltender Corinne Schroeder of Elm Creek is on New York's roster and defender Kati Tabin of Winnipeg is with Montreal. 


The Winnipeg Jets four-game winning streak came to an end Tuesday night in San Jose. William Eklund scored the go-ahead goal for the Sharks on the power play with 4:51 left in the third period as San Jose shaded Winnipeg 2-1. Brenden Dillon had the lone goal for the Jets who wrap up their four-game road trip tonight against the Los Angeles Kings. 


Matt Dunstone, Reid Carruthers, Kerri Einarson and Jennifer Jones won their round robin openers on day one of the Grand Slam of Curling's Masters in Saskatoon. Kate Cameron and Kaitlyn Lawes lost their openers on Tuesday.
