Connor Bedard scored four times as Canada defeated Austria 11-2 at the 2022 World Junior Hockey Championship in Edmonton. Mason McTavish added two goals and an assist while Lukas Cormier, Logan Stankoven, Kent Johnson, Mavrik Bourque and Cole Perfetti also scored for the Canadians who improved their preliminary round record to 2-0. Canada's next game is tonight (6 p.m.) against Germany at Rogers Place. 


Following conversations between Hockey Canada and USA Hockey, the final two games of the Rivalry Series, originally scheduled for Edmonton and Red Deer on January 3rd and January 6th have been cancelled. With several players and staff from Canada’s National Women’s Team currently in COVID-19 protocol, Hockey Canada and USA Hockey have agreed that the games will not be able to be played. The nine-game Rivalry Series between the Canadians and Americans to help both prepare for the 2022 Winter Games in Beijing was limited to six games. Canada won four of the six including two in overtime. Game seven of the series which was scheduled for December 20th in St. Paul, Minnesota was cancelled due to COVID-19 concerns. Hockey Canada has delayed naming its 23-player Olympic roster. 


The Winnipeg Jets home game against the Chicago Blackhawks tonight has been postponed because of COVID-19 concerns. The Jets game against the Flames in Calgary scheduled for Friday and Winnipeg's home games against the Seattle Kraken on January 8th and the Minnesota Wild on January 10th have been postponed by the National Hockey League because of attendance restrictions in Canadian cities.


The Grey Cup champion Winnipeg Blue Bombers have signed eight players to their 2022 roster. They are offensive lineman Jalen Burks; linebackers Robbie Lowes and Les Maruo; receiver Kelvin McKnight; defensive back Demerio Houston; defensive tackle Ricky Walker; running back Kyle Borsa and kicker Ali Mourtada. Burks, Lowes, Maruo, McKnight, Houston and Mourtada finished the 2021 season on the Blue Bombers practice roster while Walker was on the active roster.
