The Deloraine Royals and Wawanesa Brewers have joined the Boissevain Centennials and Hamiota Red Sox in round two of the South West Baseball League playoffs after winning the deciding third games of their respective quarterfinals Tuesday night. Mitch Olson homered and Kyle Breemersch went the distance allowing five hits and struck out four as Deloraine defeated the Reston Rockets 7-4. The Royals will face Wawanesa in the semifinals. Avery Cullen homered twice and drove in four runs as the Brewers downed the Virden Oilers 17-11 to advance to round two. The Centennials meet the Red Sox tonight (6:30 p.m.) in Boissevain in game one of their best-of-five semifinal. 


The East Division defeated the West 4-2 at the American Association's 2023 All-Star Game. Bryan Torres of the host Milwaukee Milkmen was named the All-Star MVP. The Winnipeg Goldeyes first game after the All-Star break is Thursday against the Milkmen at Franklin Field. 


The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have released American receiver Amare Jones and American defensive back Brad Muhammad from the practice roster. The Bombers (4-2) host the Edmonton Elks Thursday at IG Field. Winnipeg is coming off a 31-28 loss in overtime to the Redblacks in Ottawa this past Saturday. 


The Hamilton Tiger-Cats have placed quarterback Matt Shiltz on the six-game injured list and signed veteran signal caller Antonio Pipkin. Shiltz was injured in Hamilton's 37-29 victory over the Edmonton Elks at Commonwealth Stadium in week six. Pipkin has appeared in 27 CFL games over five seasons with the Montreal Alouettes, Toronto Argonauts and B.C. Lions.


Overwhelming demand for tickets meant co-host Australia's opening match at the Women's World Cup had to be shifted to the tournament's biggest stadium, where it's set to be played in front of an expected record crowd of 82,500. The Matildas will play Ireland in Thursday's opener. The match was initially scheduled for a smaller downtown stadium but had to be switched to Stadium Australia, at Sydney Olympic Park, which is also the venue for the August 20th final. Canada plays its opener on Thursday against Nigeria in Melbourne.
