Clara Peake of Binscarth is in a tie for 39th place and is the low Manitoban heading into round two of the 67th Canadian Junior Girls Championship at The Marshes Golf Club in Ottawa. Peake was five-over par 77 on Tuesday and trails co-leaders Madelin Boyd of Oshawa, Lucy Lin of Vancouver, Myranda Quinton of Burlington and Amy Seung Hyun Lee & Erin Lee of Langley by seven shots. Manitoba champion Addison Kartusch of Winnipeg opened with an eight-over par 80. Jeri Lafleche of Winnipeg was 82; Cala Korman of Killarney was 84 and Crystal Zamzow of Swan River was 88.


The Boissevain Centennials will meet the Oak River Dodgers and the Deloraine Royals will face the Hamiota Red Sox in round two of the Southwest Baseball League playoffs. The Red Sox defeated the Wawanesa Brewers 3-2 in the third and deciding game of their quarterfinal Tuesday night in Hamiota. Cole Allan, Hayden Crampain and Justin Knight had the rbi's for the Red Sox in their three-run fifth inning.


The Winnipeg Goldeyes opened their six-game homestand with a 3-2 loss to the American Association's East Division leading Chicago Dogs. David Washington drilled his 20th home run of the season for the Fish. With Max Murphy having hit 22 home runs so far in 2022, it marks the third time in franchise history the Goldeyes have multiple 20-home run hitters in the same year (1998, 2007).


Former Winnipeg Blue Bomber quarterback Chris Streveler has signed with the New York Jets after working out for the NFL team Monday. Streveler won a Grey Cup with Winnipeg in 2019 but has since spent time south of the border with the Arizona Cardinals, Baltimore Ravens, and Miami Dolphins before joining the Jets.


Some prominent Canadian track and field athletes will not compete at the upcoming Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England. Sprint star Andre De Grasse, who anchored Canada's 4-by-100 relay team to a gold medal at last week's world championships, is out, as is world decathlon silver medalist Pierce LePage. Sprinters Aaron Brown and Jerome Blake have also dropped out.
