The Provincial Women's Amateur Golf Championship and the Provincial Men's Mid-Amateur Championship begin today at Granite Hills near Lac du Bonnet. There will be new champions crowned this week as 2021 winners Bobbi Uhl of Shilo and Todd Fanning of Niakwa are not in the field. Cala Korman of Killarney is competing in the Provincial Women's Amateur Championship. Drew Jones, Nolan Tutkaluk and Brad Pardy of Shilo, Joel Baron of Carberry and Glen Ford of Glenboro are entered in the Mid-Am.


The Hamiota Red Sox, Wawanesa Brewers and Deloraine Royals were winners in the Southwest Baseball League Tuesday night. Hamiota plated six runs in the bottom of the third inning and defeated the Virden Oilers 7-1. Justin Knight had three hits including a home run for the Red Sox. Wawanesa rallied for a 10-5 victory over the Reston Rockets. The Brewers erased a 5-1 deficit by scoring five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and then four more in the sixth. Derek McGregor had a solo homer and scored three runs for Wawanesa. Deloraine gave up five runs in the top of the seventh inning but then scored the tying and winning runs in the bottom of the frame and beat the Oak River Dodgers 12-11. Mitch Olson had a pair of home runs for the second place Royals who improved to 10-3. The first place Boissevain Centennials host the Rivers Comets tonight. The Centennials are 10-2.


The Winnipeg Goldeyes dropped a 4-2 decision to the American Association's West Division leading Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks at Newman Outdoor Field. Logan Hill homered for the Fish who have lost six of their last seven games. 


Winnipeg linebacker Kyrie Wilson suffered an achilles injury in the Blue Bombers 23-22 victory over the Toronto Argonauts Monday night at BMO Field. The 29-year-old Fresno, California native will be out of the lineup for an extended period of time. Wilson, who is in his fifth season with the Bombers and helped the football team win back-to-back Grey Cup titles in 2019 and 2021, has 17 defensive tackles, one special teams tackle, and one quarterback sack. The 4-0 Blue Bombers face the 3-0 B.C. Lions Saturday in Vancouver.
