The Killarney/Wawanesa Raiders and Swan Valley Tigers are one win away from advancing to the Westman High School Hockey League final. Connor Martin scored four times and Josh Archambault had three goals and an assist as the Raiders downed Neepawa 8-5 at the Shamrock Centre. Riley Davie and Jory Kulbacki had two goals each for the visitors. Bailey Hunt scored the go-ahead goal on the power play midway through the third period and Swan Valley held on for a 2-1 victory over Dauphin at Credit Union Place. Jake Kuzmiak had the lone goal for the Clippers. Those were the first games in their respective best-of-three semifinals. 


The defending Manitoba Female U18 AAA Hockey League champion Westman Wildcats face the Yellowhead Chiefs tonight in Hartney in game one of their best-of-five semifinal. The Wildcats swept the Central Plains Capitals in round one while the Chiefs eliminated the Eastman Selects. The second round of the playoffs was delayed because of the 2023 Canada Winter Games in Prince Edward Island. 


Dawson Pasternak, Ben Thornton, Calder Anderson and Nolan Ritchie scored during a six-minute span of the second period in the Brandon Wheat Kings 4-3 victory over the Raiders in Prince Albert. Brandon netminder Ethan Eskit made 30 saves. The 17-year-old Calgary native picked up his first WHL win in his first career start. The Wheat Kings, who have eight games left, are three points back of the Swift Current Broncos in the race for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. Brandon will host the Medicine Hat Tigers tonight at Westoba Place. Matthew Savoie had a goal and an assist and Daniel Hauser stopped 27 shots as the Ice downed the Tigers 3-1 Tuesday night in Winnipeg. 


Matt Dunstone has a 5-0 record and Reid Carruthers is 2-3 at the Brier in London, Ontario. Dunstone recorded a pair of wins Tuesday, 8-4 over Matthew Manuel of Nova Scotia and 8-4 over Carruthers. Dunstone will put his perfect record on the line on the 8 a.m. draw against Nathan Young of Newfoundland & Labrador and then face Kevin Koe of Alberta at 6 p.m. Koe leads Pool A with a 6-0 record. Carruthers will meet Matthew Manuel at 1 p.m. and Jake Higgs of Nunavut at 6 p.m.


Six individuals and three teams will be inducted into the Manitoba Softball Hall of Fame. Adrian Brown and Ralph Nespor will be inducted in the All-Around Category. Brandi Chammartin, Harvey Julseth and Deb Sonnenberg will be inducted in the Athlete Category. Phyllis & Larry Klimpke will be added to the Builder Category. The 1980-1985 Legion 2 Blues Fastball Club, the 1994-1999 Moose’s Mob SloPitch Team and the 1985-1990 Sioux Valley Dakota’s Fastball Team will also be inducted. The 20th Manitoba Softball Hall of Fame Induction Banquet will be held May 6th in Winnipeg.
