The Canadian women’s softball team plated seven runs in the fifth inning and defeated Peru 10-0 at the 2023 Pan Am Games in Santiago, Chile. Boissevain’s Zoe Hicks went one-for-three at the plate with an rbi and scored a run. Team Canada has a 2-0 record in Group B and will play its final round robin game today against Puerto Rico. Canadian athletes have won 106 medals including 35 gold, 33 silver and 38 bronze.
The Manitoba Moose have assigned defenceman Dawson Barteaux to the ECHL's Idaho Steelheads. The 23-year-old Foxwarren native suited up in two AHL contests for the Texas Stars during the 2022-23 season. He also registered two points (1G, 1A) in five Calder Cup playoff games. Barteaux was a sixth-round pick (168th overall) of the Dallas Stars in the 2018 NHL Draft.
Kerri Einarson has a 3-2 record and Brad Gushue is 3-1 at the Pan Continental Curling Championships in Kelowna. Einarson defeated Jessica Smith of New Zealand 10-1 and then lost 7-5 to Tabitha Peterson of the United States. Gushue won his lone game of the day 6-3 over Riku Yanagisawa of Japan. The top five teams in the men’s and women’s competitions will earn berths into their respective world championships.
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers added veteran receiver Markeith Ambles to the practice roster. The Georgia native joins the Blue Bombers after stints with the Calgary Stampeders and Toronto Argonauts this season and brings 50 games of Canadian Football League experience to Winnipeg. He had 15 receptions for 193 yards in four games this year with the Stampeders before his release in late September. He had returned to Calgary, where he began his CFL career in 2018, following his release by Toronto in August and after missing the first couple of months of the season with the Argos due to an ankle injury. Ambles set career highs last year with the Argos, pulling in 72 passes for 737 yards and five touchdowns. He started in both playoff games for Toronto last November and had three catches for 47 yards in the Grey Cup win over the Blue Bombers on November 20th. Ambles was also part of the Stampeders Grey Cup championship team in 2018. Over his 50 regular season games, Ambles has recorded 204 receptions for 2,329 yards and 12 touchdowns.
