The Virden Oil Capitals dropped a 3-1 decision to the Dauphin Kings Tuesday at Credit Union Place. The Caps jumped out to an early 1-0 lead as Josh Lehto potted his fifth goal of the season 5:59 into the first period. That was it for Oil Capitals scoring as Dauphin netminder Cole Sheffield shut the door the rest of the way. He finished the night with 27 saves. Virden's Eric Reid faced 38 shots. The Kings lead 2-1 after the first period and 3-1 after 40 minutes. 


Thunder Bay will host the 2025 Scotties Tournament of Hearts after the northwestern Ontario city had two previous attempts at hosting the Canadian women's curling championship impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The 2021 event was moved from Thunder Bay to the Calgary curling bubble. The city did host in 2022, but fans were not permitted for most of the championship due to pandemic restrictions. 


The Canadian men's volleyball team dropped a five-set decision (21-25, 25-20, 25-20, 20-25, 17-15) to top-ranked Poland to fall to 2-1 at the Olympic qualifying tournament in China. Stephen Maar of Aurora, Ontario had 19 points and Steinbach's Eric Loeppky had 16 points for the 14th ranked Canadians who are fourth in their pool with only the top two countries qualifying for next year's Paris Olympics. Canada's next match is today against host China. Canada opened the tournament with wins over the Netherlands and Argentina.


Sport Manitoba awarded $19,000 in academic scholarships to 14 high school students and eight university students.
