The inaugural Street Fest took place in 2021 and organizers of the downtown Boissevain celebration hope for an even bigger and better program next month.

The festival offers a varied program with something for all members of the family.

Melissa Perkins is with the Municipality of Boissevain-Morton and she’s thrilled about how things are shaping up for the September 17th celebration. “Things look great and there’s a lot of excitement for 2022.”

“We’ve had a lot of different groups around the table interested in planning and participating in the program. The plan is to build on what we had in the first Street Fest in 2021 and expand from there so we’re hoping for big things.”

While the program is still being finalized the festival offers numerous activities for children, family entertainment, an arts component with many other program items yet to be firmed up by the host committee.

“Last year we coincided the event with the Chamber’s town wide garage sale and so that will be the case again this year and that happens Saturday. September 17th. The garage sale will run from early morning into the afternoon. We are planning activities from mid morning and possibly into the evening.”

Last year businesses had sidewalk sales, children’s area with carnival games, buskers, an artisan market.

“We plan to have some of these base events but will also be adding on. There are plans for expanding the kids area and adding new items like possibly a pie eating contest and a BBQ cook-off and also some evening entertainment on the live stage downtown” said Melissa Perkins.

Bingo was quite popular in 2021 and will return for the 2022 festival.

All activities are set to take place in the downtown area.

“The celebration is gaining some traction and we’re hearing how people liked last year’s program. I think there’s great potential with this event and we look forward to working with all of our community partners on Street Fest 2022.”
