The organizing committee of the 6th Annual Southwest Business and Entrepreneur Expo are putting the final touches on their February event, with Kim McConnell named as Keynote Speaker. McConnell is founder and former CEO of AdFarm, one of the largest and most respected agri-food marketing communications firms in North America, and he hails from Hamiota!
“We couldn’t be happier to be hosting Kim McConnell. I had the chance to hear him speak in Hamitoa this past summer and I knew he was the perfect fit for our event,” says chairperson Tiffany Cameron. “He’s so encouraging to entrepreneurs and his story is inspiring. He’s reached huge levels of success, but he loves to give back.”
Over the years, McConnell led many national and international brand and marketing assignments and has been the catalyst behind many major industry ventures including an initiative to build greater public trust in food and farming. He is also the recipient of national business awards including ‘Agri-Marketer of the Year’ and the Canadian Youth Business Foundation “Mentor of the Year”, being inducted into the Canadian Agricultural Hall of Fame in 2012. In 2017 McConnell was appointed a Member of the Order of Canada.
McConnell is currently a director on a number of corporate boards throughout North America, and a director on community organizations including Calgary Stampede Foundation, Canadian Agri-Food Policy Institute (CAPI), and the Chair of the Canadian Centre for Food Integrity.
"I tell people this is the type of keynote speaker you would expect to find in Calgary or Toronto," adds Tiffany Cameron.
The Annual SW Business and Entrepreneur Expo is a business education event with speakers, entrepreneur panel, tradeshow, workshop sessions and a pitch competition with real cash awards. Cameron adds this is an event for any business owner wanting to expand or elaborate on their current business, or for anyone thinking about starting their own business; this year's theme: 'Taking the Next Step in your Business'.
She shares how the organizing committee is excited to be bringing the Business and Entrepreneur Expo back to the Westman Region, this year being held in the town of Kola, MB. "We have a lineup of great afternoon sessions, including a CRA liaison coming so you can actually talk to someone directly about specific tax questions and how to do things correctly."
"So, this is high quality, good information and great presenters and it's right here in our own back yard, here in Kola, MB. So, I think all the pieces are in place for a great event!!"
