Springfield skip Karen Rosser

Karen Rosser is celebrating her tenth anniversary. It’s a curling anniversary and one we reminisced about fondly on day one of the 2011 Provincial Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Altona. It was ten years ago that Rosser (formerly Karen Young), along with third Jan Sandison, second Tammy Radchenka and lead Alison Harvey captured the 2001 Provincial Scott Tournament of Hearts in Thompson. Rosser and her St. Vital Curling Club teammates won the Manitoba title beating Jennifer Jones. From Thompson it was off to Sudbury and the Canadian Ladies Championship where Rosser, Sandison, Radchenka and Harvey played well but not well enough to make the playoffs. After losing in an extra end to defending champion Kelley Law, Rosser needed a win over Colleen Jones of Nova Scotia in her final round-robin game to qualify for a tie-breaker. It wasn’t to be. Jones snuck into that tie-beaker and won her first of four straight Canadian championships. What about the skip that Rosser beat in the Provincial final in 2001? She’s won four of the past six Canadian championships and Jennifer Jones will be looking to make it five next month in Charlottetown. There is one final sidebar to this story. The assembled media at the Provincial Ladies Curling Championship would hold a draft at the banquet prior to the start of the Scott. We selected teams from one to 16. When I drew the number one choice, it was with great confidence that I announced my selection...“Karen Young will win the 2001 Provincial Scott Tournament of Hearts”.
