Tyson Verhelst stopped 29 shots as the Southwest Cougars downed the Yellowhead Chiefs 4-1 in Souris. Jordan McCausland, Sheldon Kowalchuk and Wyatt Kalynuk scored power play goals for the Cougars. Daylon Creasy sealed the deal scoring an empty net goal with 19 seconds remaining in the third period. Travis Sanheim had the lone goal for the Chiefs who outshot Southwest 30-19. The Cougars (11-13-0-2) will play three road games this weekend. Southwest will meet the defending Manitoba "AAA" Midget Hockey League champion Winnipeg Wild on Friday; play the Eastman Selects in Beausejour on Saturday and then take on the Interlake Lightning in Arborg on Sunday.

Natives 4 Oil Capitals 1
The Virden Oil Capitals outshot Neepawa 36-27 but lost 4-1 to the Natives at the Yellowhead Centre. Kurt Johnas had the lone goal for the Oil Capitals. Cody Hoy scored twice for the Natives while singles went to Brayden Cuthbert and Riley Pace. Virden goaltender Ty Edmonds stopped 23 shots. Neepawa netminder Corey Koop handled 35 shots. The Oil Capitals (12-15-5) will host the Swan Valley Stampeders on Friday and the Steinbach Pistons on Saturday.
