Merv Tweed's private members Bill to protect the library book rate is a step closer to being passed.

Yesterday the the MP for Brandon-Souris was joined by the Minister of State and the Canadian Library Association. They threw their support behind Bill C-509.

Tweed says the Bill has to pass third and final reading and he's confident that will happen.

Approximately 65 percent of the volumes mailed under the Library Book Rate are destined for libraries and users in small towns across Canada.

The Bill has gone through second reading and now goes back to committee before coming back for third and final reading.
