The University of Manitoba continues to take steps to help Manitobans.  This, from Manitoba's Chief Medical Officer, Doctor Brent Roussin, and Lanette Siragusa, Chief of Nursing Officer with Shared Health in today's COVID-19 update:

“We mentioned that the University of Manitoba continues with a clinical trial on a potential treatment for COVID-19 and so those who are confirmed cases, those who are contacts to confirmed cases, or health care workers who are contacts to confirmed cases can go to www.covid-19researach.ca  for additional details," says Dr Roussin.

Siragusa shared updates on the COVID-19 Case Contact Centre:

"We announced this last week that we were going to establish a centralized centre where people could work together to make sure that those who are diagnosed with positive COVID-19 and their contacts, there’s a concentrated effort happening to do that work."

“So, as Doctor Roussin has said before, there is a lot of follow up that’s required in this; all the contacts and the positive cases have to have daily surveillance and making sure that they’re not developing symptoms and helping to trouble shoot if they’re having challenges with site self-isolating.”

“So, this past week we have staffed them up, and ordered them what they need in terms of supplies to get to work.”

“We now have 30 students from the University of Manitoba College of Medicine providing support to the Risk Call Centre. And these are medical residents who have been trained to be critical providers under the supervision of residents.”

“We also have 15 more (U of M) students in residence that have offered to help so training is ongoing and happening as I speak, and we anticipate the centre will be up and running by mid-week.”

"We have all these implementation strategies regarding social distancing in place," says Dr Roussin.  "There are public health orders in place, and these are challenging times putting a lot of burden on Manitobans and we appreciate everyone’s effort.  But all of these efforts are here because we are not helpless against this virus."

"Together we can end the transmission of this virus," stated Dr. Roussin, "but we have to work together, all of us."
