Virden RCMP investigating homicide - media release

On Wednesday, March 6, 2024, at approximately 10:05 am, a First Nation Safety Officer responded to a well-being check at a residence in Sioux Valley Dakota Nation.

Upon arrival he discovered a deceased 64-year-old male from Sioux Valley Dakota Nation. Virden RCMP attended and the matter is being investigated as a homicide.

Cpl. Julie Courchaine, Media Relations Officer with the Manitoba RCMP says the Virden RCMP along with Major Crime Services and Forensic Identification Services, continue to investigate.

"Especially for a homicide, if there is anyone with information to provide on this, to call the Virden RCMP," shares Cpl Courchaine. "The RCMP is in a lot of the rural areas here in Manitoba, and we really do count on our community members to call in because they're the ones who know if something is out of place, or if there is perhaps a suspicious person or vehicle in the area, to just call us and we do follow up."

"Sometimes we happen to be nearby and can follow up right away and this is what leads us to perhaps more arrests or solving investigations. So, it really is important for people to reach out to us."

If you have any information on the incident at the Sioux Valley Dakota Nation, please call the Virden RCMP at 204-748-2046.
