The quality of water in the community of Waskada is going to get a lot better.
The village has been given the green light to join the Southwest Regional Water Co-op. The move will allow the community to hook into a system that provides water treated through reverse osmosis. Waskada mayor Gary Williams says it will be a big "quality of life" improvement for local residents.

The project is expected to be completed by next spring at a cost of about 750-thousand dollars. Mayor Williams says they're getting some help in paying for the project from Penn West Energy, an oil and gas company working in the area.

Mayor Williams says that support helps reduce the cost from $6,000 to $4,000 per hook-up. Williams says residents will have the option of paying the cost immediately, or over a 20 year period.
