The Manitoba U18 AAA Hockey League champion Brandon Wheat Kings, who won 43 of 44 regular season games and then went 9-0 in the playoffs, have qualified for the Telus Cup. Brady Turko scored 2:21 into overtime to lift Brandon past the Saskatoon Blazers 1-0 in the West Regional championship game Sunday at Hockey For All Centre in Winnipeg. Burke Hood made 30 saves in recording the shutout. The Wheat Kings are the first Manitoba team to win the West Regional and advance to the Telus Cup since the Winnipeg Thrashers won the National U18 AAA championship in 2011. The Brandon Wheat Kings also captured the West Regional and the National championship in 2004. The 2024 Telus Cup will take place April 24th-30th in Membertou, Nova Scotia.
